of the Intimate style ending ∼어/아
followed by the Polite marker
∼요.
Therefore, the Intimate style
is subject to the same variation as the Polite∼어요/아요
style.
That is, the form is∼아
if the last vowel of the verb stem is either 아or
오,
as in 좋아 in
(4), except that the ending ∼아
is deleted if the stem ends in
아 or
애 without
a final consonant, as in 가
in (2).
Otherwise the form is
∼어,
as in 있어
in (2) and 끊어
in (3). When the predicate is
-하다, 하+어 renders
해, as in 전화해
in (4) (cf. 전화해요).
After the Past Tense Marker
∼었/았,
∼어
is used regardless of the stem vowel.
