(1) 민지: 유진씨, 어디 가세요? 유진: 소포 부치러 우체국에 가는 길이에요. 이 달 말이 엄마 생신이거든요.  (2) 샌디: 한국까지 왕복 비행기 값이 얼마예요? 직원: 850불이에요. 샌디: 왜 그렇게 비싸요? 직원: 요즘 방학이라서 여행을 많이 하거든요.  (3) 마이클: 샌디씨, 여행준비 다 됐어요? 샌디: 네, 비행기표만 사면 돼요. 비자는 지난 주에 받았거든요.

Notes
1. The ∼거든요 sentence often provides a reason or explanation
     why the situation currently at issue is the way it is.

 2. The reason or explanation provided must be something that the listener
     would understand easily when s/he hears it. ∼거든요 is used
     when the speaker expects the listener to easily recognize the correlation
     between the situation currently at issue and the reason/explanation provided.
     It is roughly equivalent to saying in English 'You see, (because) . . .'
