Notes
1. We have learned that nominals may be marked with a particle for their role in a sentence, e.g., ��/�� for subjects (G2.4) and ��/�� for objects (G3.6). In conversation, however, nominals frequently are not marked with any particle at all. In reporting, whose purpose is to report who does what to whom and where and how in precise terms, particles are needed.

2. Even in conversation, a particle is necessary when the speaker wants to focus on a specific element the speaker assumes the listener is not thinking of.
